A poster for the 2005 Healing Field in Broomfield. The poster is 11" x 17", poster board. The poster shows a photograph image of the flag field by the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library, with several rows of American flags shown along with a larger flag and pole in the background. Text below the picture encourages volunteers to assist with flags by contacting the North Metro Fire Department. Donors are also encouraged to sponsor a flag for $20, giving proceeds to a permanent 9/11 memorial. A calendar of events outlines the flag placement and opening ceremony on September 11, 2005, and the closing ceremony and flag pickup on September 18. Corporate sponsors shown include St. Anthony Hospitals and Centura Health, Wal Mart, KYGO, and others. The City and County of Broomfield also sponsored.
Broomfield residents, in conjunction with the City and County of Broomfield, Broomfield Police, and North Metro Fire Rescue, placed approximately 5,753 three-by-five-foot American flags in the park space around the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library. The flags represented the civilian victims and first responders who died from the attacks, and members of the coalition forces who had died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The event was a national effort, with Broomfield bringing one field to the Denver-Metro area. Proceeds from sponsored flags were ultimately used to create a permanent, local 9/11 memorial near the library.Collection
