Certificate appointing Harry Crawford to be the postmaster of Broomfield in Boulder County, dated December 2, 1896. The certificate is printed in script, but also handwritten in places. It was signed by William L. Wilson, Postmaster General of the United States of America. An imprinted, golden seal for the US Post Office Department is in the lower left corner of the document.
The text on the certificate reads:
"Post Office Department/ William L. Wilson/ Postmaster General of the United States of America/ To all to whom Presents shall come, Greeting:/ Whereas, On the 2nd day of December, 1896 Harry Crawford was appointed/ Postmaster at Broomfield, in the County of Boulder, State of Colorado/ and whereas he did on the 26th day of December, 1896 execute a Bond, and has taken the Oath/ of Office as required by law./ Now know ye, That confiding in the integrity, ability, and punctuality of the said Harry Crawford,/ I do commission him a Postmaster, authorized to execute the duties of that Office at Broomfield/ aforesaid, according to the laws of the United States and the Regulations of the Post Office Department:/ To hold the said Office of Postmaster, with all the powers, privileges, and emoluments to the same belonging,/ during the pleasure of the Postmaster General of the United States./ In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, and caused the seal of the Post Office Department to be affixed, at/ Washington City, this second day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight/ hundred and ninety-seven, and of the Independence of the United States the one hundred twenty-first/ William L.
