Scope and Content

Cookbook with recipes for canning food to help with the war effort during World War II. Includes an introduction and plea to American homemakers to properly feed her family; explains vitamin and mineral needs; describes how to can foods using kettles, hot and cold pack methods, pressure cookers, hot water baths, ovens, and steam cookers; and recipes. There is an index. Published by the Kerr Glass Manufacturing Company, the cookbook includes color advertisements for their glass jars and other products. Physical Characteristics: 9.5"(H) x 6.75"(W) softcover book bound with three staples. 56 pages, color illustrations. Front cover has a women in blue dress holding a mason jar and fondly looking at it. In front of her is a basket containing several different vegetables and three mason jars. In the upper left corner is an eagle holding a shield stating "National Nutrition Issue, Food for Victory." Title is on the bottom. Back cover has various fruits and vegetables as well as mason jars filled with preserved food. In the middle is a black shield with yellow lettering " Enjoy easier canning, Use Kerr Mason Jars, Caps & lids for all methods of Home Canning"
