The Broomfield Company Seal EmbosserEntry/Object ID
2012.7.6Description
An embosser for imprinting a seal for The Broomfield Company, used circa 1955-1964. The embosser is approximately 5" (l) x 2" (w) x 8.5" (h) when standing upright, with a long lever used to imprint paper with two round metal plates. The shape of the embosser curves toward the back away from the handle, toward the base. Materially it is solid metal, black. The embossing plates are bronze and silver in color, with the former on top. The seal itself is round when applied, with the company name "The Broomfield Company" along the top edge. Underneath the base, two hollow spots are visible, one filled with dried, hardened, and silver-colored melted metal. The name "Bob Ide," referring to the embosser's owner, is inscribed in permanent black marker on the metal. Ide's business card from Northwest Properties, LLC, a real estate company, is attached with cotton string/tape on the handle. Ide worked for Transamerica Development Company in the 1970s; Transamerica bought The Broomfield Company in 1964.Collection

Notes
This artifact is part of a larger collection originally owned by Robert C. Ide, who donated it to the Broomfield Depot Museum in 2012 (see accession 2012.7). He obtained the records from his employer, Transamerica Development Company, in the 1970s after he worked selling many of their assets in the Broomfield area. Transamerica had also acquired several documents from Turnpike Land Company in 1964, which itself had previously acquired the records of Broomfield Reservoir and Ditch Company and The Broomfield Company in 1955.
