A photo of the first street light at the corner of Coral Way and ?. A boy is looking at the street light. There are crop marks on the photo. In the distance a sign can be seen of K.C. Ensor's construction company. (b/w) From November 4, 1955 Broomfield Builder, “The street lights were turned on at Broomfield Heights Thursday night. A little darktime ceremony was held with Leslie Jones, Lafayette district manager of Public Service Company, and Ken Ensor, Turnpike President, officially pulling the switch at approximately 5:45. The lights are up in areas with show houses. They are controlled by an electric eye which automatically turns them on at dusk. Jones thinks Broomfield Heights is the only city in Colorado with street lights controlled by an electric eye. After photographing the switch pulling, the photographer took some pictures of young John Eloe, son of our first family, watching the brand new lights.” Label from 2021 Exhibit: John Eloe Admiring Street Lights on Coral Way, November 4, 1955 It wasn’t a simple process to build a city from scratch. The Turnpike Land Company boasted that they spent $2.5 million dollars (about $25 million today) before a single home was built. The company had to construct water, sewage, drainage, phone, and electrical systems before home construction could begin. On November 4, 1955 The Broomfield Builder reported, “The street lights were turned on at Broomfield Heights Thursday night.
