Description

Photograph print on cabinet card of William Kreugel in military uniform, 1898. The card is 5" x 6.5", with a print sized 4" x 5.5". The image shows Kreugel from the knees up, posing with his uniform hat at his right side and his left arm down. A white arm band with a red cross is also visible on his left arm. An illustrated American flag on a pole is on the upper right corner of the cabinet card, with a red cross medic flag in the upper left. The reverse side of the card has the photographer's name, Charles Freshman, printed, with the text "Crayon Pastel a Specialty. Green Line Car. Broadway and Railroad Ave., Jefferson Barracks P.O. St. Louis County, Duplicates on Hand." Two different inscriptions are also handwritten on the back. The first, in thick black ink, reads "Wm Kreugel - 'Papa' to Emily and Helen Kreugel." It was possibly written by William Kreugel himself. The second inscription, in blue ink, reads, "Spanish American War Uniform, William Kreugel (Father of Emily Kreugel Crawford)." This was likely written by Broomfield Depot Museum staff.
