A color print of Broomfield's Healing Field Memorial, September 11, 2005. The print is 8.5" x 11", inkjet printing on photograph paper with a matte finish. The image shows several rows of 3' x 5' American flags standing in an open grass area, with the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library and several trees in the background. Inscription on the reverse side, in blue ink, notes the photographer as Reba Hermansen, date taken September 11, 2005.
Broomfield residents, in conjunction with the City and County of Broomfield, Broomfield Police, and North Metro Fire Rescue, placed approximately 5,753 three-by-five-foot American flags in the park space around the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library. The flags represented the civilian victims and first responders who died from the attacks, and members of the coalition forces who had died in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The event was a national effort, with Broomfield bringing one field to the Denver-Metro area. Proceeds from sponsored flags were ultimately used to create a permanent, local 9/11 memorial near the library.Collection
