Early in the pandemic, these face shields were sometimes used in lieu of cloth face masks, especially as their was some concern about the imporantace of some people being able to read someone's face and lips in some situations (for example, someone hard of hearing, or someone working as a speech therapist). However, face shields were generally discouraged as they were found to not be as effective as masks. Some people would wear a mask and a face shield. There was also a worry during the pandemic that the Coronavirus could enter through the eyes, and it was hoped that face masks would help keep this from happening. These face masks were distributed through the community by InventHQ, a department of the library.Collection
