Oral history interview with Frank Varra, October 2nd, year unknown. Circa 1987. Frank advised the interviewer that his tape not be transcribed without his prior permission. As we have no indication that permission was ever given, only Frank's audio is attached to this record. Subject matter: Born in Broomfield in 1919 Zangs, Zang Brewing Company Monarch coal camp and School District 66 owned by National Fuel Company Louisville High School Worked ranching, law enforcement, and as an investigator at a district attorney's office Prairies and native grasses, pastureland in the area around Broomfield Depression, no money but they had food from their farm, things were tough up until the war Joe Huddard, Mosher, postmaster named Milo, Miles Crawford Passenger train, coal train that would pick up from Monarch mine, Broomfield Depot, Broomfield Depot Museum Louisville State Bank National Fuel Company, because they were all paid in cash, and he was given a rifle and set up in the chapel to watch for robbers on payday. Ken Hoyle Broomfield Heights, pickle factory, blacksmith, lumberyard, Sunny's and Mary's restaurant, Broomcorn was raised near the Mandeley school His family Coal mine explosion in 1936 1937, he would get paid $1/day to milk 30 cows, then coal mine for $2.50/day, then at the police deparment for $100/month in 1943.
