Name/Title

Buttonhook and Shoe Tree

Entry/Object ID

2025.5.36.a-b

Description

(a) Item is buttonhook for shoes, allowing the user to more easily fasten the boot together. The handle of the hook appears to be ceramic, while the arced end is made of metal. Item appears to be in decent shape despite a crack down the middle of the handle and some corrosion on the hook. (b) Item is a wooden shoe tree, used to hold the shape of the shoe when it is on display or not currently in use. It consists of a main piece of wood with a piece of what appears to be a clothespin screwed into it. A metal piece that curves at the end sticks out of the bottom. Items are likely from the early 20th century, as earlier versions of these tools were commonly used during the Victorian era.
