This is a photocopy of a handwritten timeline of major events. It covers 1864-1972, the date this was written on is unknown. Transcript: 1864 - Churches 1sr perm residents 104th/old glads churches crossing-called "Eleven Mile House"- Overland stages Route to Sacramento & Cheyenne 1868 - In June Wells Fargo stopped stage, Continued being used lip (?) "buelchokoee (?)" hauling hay to mtn. 1873 - Colo central Rwy for dnvr --> Bldr through Bmfd 1876 - Colorado admitted to the Union 1877 - Church legan irrigation system to bring water to Clear Cl. 1879 - "Meeker Massacre" - moved and. to reservations 1879 - Reservoir built - later marrow grange stopped here to take on water. 1880 - Lakeview cemetery 10th/ Main 1881- DU & P (mg) opened for traffic on November 24th 1882 - Lorraine School built- 112th/pierce 1883 - Broomfield hotel., 7435 W 120th, 1st story of wooden bldg built 1884 - First P.O. established 9-26-84. Dreuella Coulson 1st postmaster (unknow word) this date until 7-7-86. 1885 - Adolph Zang, who had come to CO in 1882, bought - with 2 partners, dry prairie land from UPRR. 1885 - Daniel Mitze bought 160 acres to farm - now greenway park 1887 - First PO built in July at site of NG Railroad drive/Eric 1888 - First Church established Methodist - sues in Lorrain school until about 190 - then private homes til 1904. 1889 - First business, grocery and 0 graves 1889 - P.O moved site near "new" RR (SG). on Matthews property just W of B. Lemde(?). 1890 - Zang Spur Built 1890 - Lakeview Cemetery 1895 - Zang buys out partners & purchases additional land - total 4000 acres 1889-90 - DU&P converted mg to sg and moved W to where tracks in Bmfd are now 1890? - "Proprietor Cheese Factory and creamery" (the Colo State Sus. Dircetory?). she continued to run the Caledorea Cheese Factory until 1910. She then ran a boarding house 1894 - First "feed and graham" mill opened ED Graves, Postmaster was proprietor 1895 - Viola Crooks (born 1891), early bmfd pioneer, was 4 years old when she moved to Olsen purchased 80a 1896 - 180 acres on SW corner of pierce and 120th homestead by a Mr. Raggner 1898 - Broomfield P.O authorized to issue postal money orders 1898 - Broomfield Crescent Grange organized - rented Jones 1899 - Committee of "granges" convinced P.O Dept. in Wash DC that Broomfield needed rural free delivery mail house 1900 - Was DC P.O. Dept., authorized establishment of Bmfd RFD to commenced August 15, 1900 1900 - One of the oldest residents in Bmfd - the Sauer house - was built 1901 - Sometime prior to 1901 Jones Hall was built 1st gen'l Stou and P.O 1903 - Zang Started building G.W Reservoir (Zangs Reservoir now (1911)) - 8 years to complete 1906 - Jones Hall remodeled 1906 - P.O moved to Jones Bldg (?) 1906 - aprox. date the second story was added to Broomfield Hotel 1906 - Gambling House/Saloon, Pickle mill 1907 - Cornerstone laid for Warren Chapel 1908 - Warren Chapel (Methodist Church) completes 1908 - On June 24 D&L started operating Kit Route 1908 19 passenger trains/ day (D&I) 1909 - New RR Depot (donated by BNRR to Bmfld and is now the Museum) Built by Colorado & Southern Rwy 1909 - Nov 22 first Robbery! Thieves blew open P.O. Safe & escaped w/$680.00 1912 - First electricity of Broomfield. 1915 - "Old Exchange" telephone age in house month of later at 120th/lowell bldg 1915 - Zang gave 1 acre of grange building 1916 - July 17 - first meeting in new grange bldg 1916 - Hungarian Flower mill constructed by JK Mullen and is the oldest of the two elevators. 1916 - Sept. 28 Adolph Joseph Zang died 1918 - Flu epidemic caused many fatalities 1918 - Schools consolidated 1920 - Second grain elevator built 1920 - On April 6, Adolph Frank Zang held 1st sale of his prized Percherons 1921 - April 16 Major snow storm takes down telephone line for Bmfd to cozy corner (hard to read) 1921 - Two room school completed, 10th/Main 1925 - 8-21 Alfalfa Mill Burned 1925 - Ray Mckee buys Bmfd Mercantile, burned, rebuilt 1925 - Broomfield State Bank 1926 - D&L ceases operation on 12-15 1927 - All D&L trackage removed 1927 - Telephone exchange bldg at 120th/ lowell (N side of 120th) buy approx. date 1929 - (picture taken 1-24) Telephone exch. bldg at 120th/ Lowell 1935 - Construction of Boulder- Denver Turnpike begins - opened 1952 1947 - Zang farm sold to Mr. L.A. Biddle of Holyoke 1952- P.O. moves to bldg which now is Blair Electric 1952 - Dnvr-Bldr Turnpike opened. Shep "adopted" the toll booth 1955 - Ground Breaking Ceremonies - Bmfd Hts 1958 - Sept. 22, 6:47 AM, 2 C&S Burlington trains collided, 4 killed and 35 injured 1958 - Safeway opens in Bmfd Drug bldg (Drug was where Gunques is) 1959 - December - volunteers start library 1961 - Broomfield incorpatd 1962 - Library bldg - donation from Bal Swan 1967 - May 30, 9:30 PM train # Dnvr --> Billings Mt was last passenger train through Bmfd 1972 - Jones Hall burned down
