Name/Title

Navy Bloomers

Entry/Object ID

2000.2.18

Description

Navy blue twill bloomers. Fabric is almost a lightweight denim. Very voluminous bloomers with the fabric controlled by pleats at the waistband and below the knee. The pleats at the waist have been sewn day. A button closure on the side though there is an opening below that (has raveled). Number was written on the waistband with a marker of some sort. The bloomers measure 18" (w) x 30" (l). (Bloomers such as these were a popular garment for women that either worked outside or played outside. Activities like riding horses and bicycles practically necessitated the need for a bifurcated garment. This variety was worn by horsewoman in wild west shows and by women on the frontier that needed a functional garment.)
