Dress, Black with Grapes and VinesEntry/Object ID
2005.2.15Description
Black full-length dress with long sleeves, pouffed shoulder and fitted at wrist. A-line skirt with stuffed velvet grapes appliqued onto background and metallic painted gold leaves around bottom quarter of dress. The grapes have been lightly stuffed, are 3-D. The black material is an acetate, burn test showed hard beading, self-extinguish and synthetic burning smell. There is a backing material found as an interfacing/supportive material, it is of a glazed cotton. The velvet on the front is silk (as polyester velvet had not yet been invented.) The dress measures 22" (w) x 60" (l).
It appears this dress may have been used for a ceremony or perhaps for an activity or organizations event, the stuffed velvet and painted gold leaves are not an every day type of decoration.Collection
