Description

Item is a black-and-white photograph taken sometime before 1994, likely in the late 1980s or early 1990s. The photo centers around Charles Ozaki, who is wearing aviator sunglasses and a suit jacket, who is sitting in a chair and reading to a group of children who are gathered on the floor in front of him. They are inside the library at 12 Garden Center in a room with cinderblock walls, paper plate decorations on the walls, and a wooden door, partially obscure by the legs and arms of Mary Jane Bailey, which are visible at the right of the photo. Mary Jane Bailey was Broomfield's first paid Library Director, hired in October 1961 after the city approved a grant. The library has since moved four times. Charles Ozaki spent eight years as the City and County Manager of Broomfield, then 29 years as Assistant (and later Deputy) City and County Manager.
