Description

Described on the registration sheet as a "dispatch box" from Jones' Hall this may have been used for sorting mail. Jones' Hall had many functions including serving as a post office. The wood box was made from a crate and painted black on the front and sides. The back of the box has text stamped on it in black ink. The text reads, "FOR ALL COOKING/ SNOWDRIFT/ PURE VEGETABLE COOKING FAT/ THE SOUTHERN COTTON OIL COMPANY/ NEW YORK, SAVANNAH, NEW ORLEANS, CHICAGO." The box has 13 compartments and measures 18.75" (h) x 22.5" (w) x 7.25" (d).
