Scope and Content

Item is a spiral-bound diary from the year 1983. The journal belonged to Birdie Viola Crooks, who was born on August 12, 1889 in Arvada, Colorado. Her family moved to Broomfield in 1893 when she was four years old, and she lived there for 90 years until she passed away on August 1, 1985. Crooks documented each day of 1983 up until July 19th, commenting on topics like the weather and what her family was up to that day. The front page of the journal has her information filled out, and the back section, which has spots to add addresses, has quite a few filled out. The journal itself has a black front and back cover and is titled "Week at a Glance: 1983." Inside the front cover is a pamphlet titled "Be a Better Baby Sitter" published by the National Child Safety Council. It contains instructions on what information to receive from parents before watching their children and what to do in case of an emergency. This pamphlet is likely from the same year as the diary.
