Scope and Content

Scrapbook is contained in a large blue 3-ring binder. 31 pages. Within the cover sleeve, there is a white sheet of paper with the title, "1986-1987 Broomfield Luncheon Optimist Club," symbols of the Optimist Club, and the phrase "Friend of Youth" printed on it. Many files, photographs, and newspaper clippings regarding the Optimist Club events in Broomfield from 1986 to 1987 are included in this binder. Scrapbook contains extensive information about the Optimist Club in Broomfield, such as the names of its president and directors. It also includes papers stating the purposes of the group and the Optimist Creed, which includes the main beliefs of the club members. Multiple pictures of the Optimist Tri-Star Football event are included, along with pictures and newspaper clippings about the new therapy pool at the Bal-Swan Children's Center are included. A letter from the president of the Broomfield Optimist Club, Bill Sisk, is present, along with records of donations and collaborations with the Boulder County Partners. There is also information about the Broomfield Optimist Club's Tri-Star Basketball competition and other events for members, such as district meetings, fundraisers, and contests. Photos of donations to St. Anthony's hospital are included, as well. The Broomfield Optimist Club also sponsored the Optimist Student of the Month program, where the club would award students that were academically successful and involved in their community. Photos of some of the student winners are present. The Broomfield Optimist Club also worked with Broomfield Police to spread the word about the negative affects of drug abuse and encourage youth to respect the law. Photos and information about the group's annual garage sale, bike rodeo, and the winners of the Oratorical Contest are included. Information about the Celebrity Bar-B-Que, the Tri-Star Baseball tournament, and Huck Finn & Becky Thatcher Day are present, along with more information about the purpose of the Bal-Swan Children's Center. Extensive information about the Broomfield Optimist Club's involvement with 1987 Broomfield Days events is present towards the end of the scrapbook. In the back of the binder, there is a list of receipts and a collection of 33 photographs, mostly of the Broomfield Days Clown Contest.
