Item is a blue hard-bound journal from 1955. The title "Dailyaide" is printed in the center in golden lettering, with the words "The Silent Secretary" printed below it. The insides of the front and back covers contain miniature calendars for each month, surrounded by a floral border. There are some addresses written in the back few pages. Tucked within the diary is a business card for Oliver B. Proett, the pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Wayne, Nebraska.
The journal belonged to Birdie Viola Crooks, who was born on August 12, 1889 in Arvada, Colorado. Her family moved to Broomfield in 1893 when she was four years old, and she lived there for 90 years until she passed away on August 1, 1985. Crooks documented each day of her life throughout 1955, providing invaluable insight into what it was like to live in Broomfield during this time.Collection
