1977.5.9Description
A thin cardboard tag from the 1904 World Fair. It's in the shape of a lantern with a blue tab-area on the top and bottom, a hole punched through the top to presumably attach it. On the front, it features a geisha with black, tied hair and a red hair ornament. She has red lips and pale white skin and wears a lavender and yellow kimono. Her sleeves are long and flowing, featuring purple flower designs. The upper section of her kimono is white and yellow, the obi and bow being the same yellow color with flower patterns. On the bottom half of her kimono is lavender with yellow flowers, green grass, and white piping. She holds a white fan that reads "BANZAI" and geta sandals. The background has a green plant/vine and the backdrop is the flag of the rising sun. The text beside her reads "Meet me at fair Japan on the pike."
On the back, there is a large Asian-styled building with mostly red, accompanied by yellow accents and a curved roof. There are pillars in the front that continue off to the sides, a fair in the background, and a crowd of people (implied, they look like specs). The ground is yellow and there is text in the bottom center that reads "Geisha Girls in wooden shoes, Geisha Girls all merry-- Geisha Girls with almond eyes, And lips like Japan's cherry"Collection
