John S. Vaughan's Order of Railroad Telegrapher's 25-year Pin.
Entry/Object ID
2005.8.1
Description
This is a metal, brass colored lapel pin, owned by John S. Vaughan, former Broomfield Depot station agent. This pin indicated membership with the Order of Railroad Telegraphers. It measures.625"(H) x .5"(W) x .25"(D) On the pin at the top are the letters "ORT". Below these letters is the silhouette of a telegraph key. Below this is the number "25" between bunches of leaves (laurel wreath perhaps). On the backside of the pin keeper is the inscription: "B.B. CO. ROCH. NY" There is a circular stamp in the brass below this inscription with perhaps a company logo or a crest within.
The date of circa 1943 was determined by Mr.Vaughan's active service as a telegrapher. He is recorded as being a telegrapher in 1918 through 1940. He may have worked after 1940. He was 19 years old. Add 25 years gives you 1943. He could have become a member a few years before or a few years after.
