Personal account from Ed Smith about his childhood in Broomfield in the 1950s and 1960s, particularly his experience attending the old brick Broomfield School beginning in 1952 and demolished a few years later. Grew up at 7795 West 120th Avenue in Broomfield, next to the Grange (now demolished).
Describes were a lot of things used to be located and what's been demolished.
Mentions that the brick school didn't have plumbing and was heated by coal that the older boys would stoke. Says the school was located next to the cemetery. Eventually graduated from Broomfield High School in 1964. The only other students he remembers attending the old brick school that grduated high school were Garnet Smith (his sister), Renee Kozisek, Bonnie Bright, Susie Kozisek, and maybe Dale Brunner.
Says the bricj school's slide was moved to the Brunner Farmhouse.
Describes the Lorraine School that his cousins attended. Says it was located at 119th Place, one block south from where he lived.
Includes memories of the 1953 train crash/accident which happened near his home.
Describes building of Broomfield Heights, Cottage Schools. Eventually attends Emerald Elementry whien it included high school students. Says the original Emerald School has been torn-down and replaced.
