This is a history of the growth of the railroads' monopoly and with the consequent need for government regulation at state and federal levels. Including railroad importance during the Civil War, then their decline during the turnpike and airline era.
This is a hardcover book with a white front cover. There is a light blue, olive green and gray illustrations of two trains at the center of the cover. On of the trains is an old steam engine, the other a modern freight engine.
