Description

Book titled, "History of the World War" by Frank H. Simonds, published 1920. The book is volume five of a five volume set, detailing the history of World War I and its battles. Color illustrations and maps are also included. The inside cover and first two cover pages have inscriptions in blue ink, written by the book's original owner Joseph Huddart. The inside cover lists Huddart's name, "J.J. Huddart Broomfield Colo. April 23 - 1925." The first page states, "In Memory of my dead mother. Died April 23 1923. Mary Alice Huddart Weldona, Colorado." The second page lists all the places where Huddart was stationed during World War I while he was in the service as a musician, 3rd class. Locations listed include: Camp Cody, New Mexico; Camp Dix, New Jersey; England; France; and Germany. Huddart also listed May 27, 1918 as the date he entered the service, and March 22, 1919 as his date of discharge at Camp Mills. The lettering "L.2." is also listed by his discharge date, possibly referring to a rank of second lieutenant. Blue hardcover, glue binding, 7" x 10", 422 pages. The title, "History of the World War" is in gold imprinted lettering on the front, with eight different crests surrounding it in a circle. A United States of America eagle seal is just below the circle of crests. The author's name, "Frank H. Simonds" is at the bottom of the cover.
