Description

One single railroad car seal and approximately ninety-eight railroad car seals tied together with a wire. These are globe security seals, 8.25" long and .3" wide metal straps with a ball on one end. "RF" is embossed on the band. The single seal is locked. The straps were used to seal rail car doors. After freight was loaded into a car these straps were placed through the door handles and one end of the strap was threaded into a ball at the other end. When the car reached its destination it was inspected by freight yard workers. Removing the seal required cutters or snippers. If the seal was broken or tampered with then they knew the car may have been opened in transit.
