Scope and Content

A 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" black and white postcard advising parents to explain to their sons that playing around trains is dangerous. On the front of the postcard is an man in a suit sitting at a table. A young boy with severed legs is sitting on a stack of books on the table. In the background are two rows of boys seated in chairs, a row of parents seated in chairs, and men standing---all are looking at the young child. Text on the back reads: "Santa Fe Railway Company Safety Department This picture is part of a gripping story! A certain clique of boys in a Kentucky Town got in the habit of playing about the railroad yards, flipping cars and taking other chances. To break up the practice before one of them was killed or injured, they were taken before the Judge of the County Court who gave them some needed advice and released them subject to their continued good behavior. Their lesson was soon forgotten and on their next reported violation of his instructions he brought them and one of their parents before him; to drive home the fate that awaited them if flipping cars and playing around railroad yards was continued, he submitted as evidence the seven year old lad shown sitting on table. May we suggest you show this to your boy and give him the same kindly advice that this Justice gave these thoughtless boys?"
