2016.21.2Description
This banner was used as identification for the Broomfield square dance club called the "Star Prowlers." It was also used as a token to be stolen and held by other square dance clubs. According to the donor: "Visiting dancers from other clubs would steal this banner. To get it back, the Star Prowlers would have to send 4 couples to their [the thieving dance club] dance to retrieve the banner." When stolen the banner was put into a tube, Object ID #2016.21.3.
This banner is constructed of blue satin fabric. The words "STOLEN FROM PROWLERS" are represented in white fabric block capital letters appliqued to the blue ground fabric. Also in applique, is the silhouette of a man and woman dancing (proper right) in black fabric with white stitching and a five pointed star in yellow fabric (proper left) with the word "STAR" in appliqued black letters. The edges are finished and have no decoration. The top edge is sewn forming a sleeve to accept the wooden hanging rod. This 1/4" dowel has yellow finials and measures 22 1/2" in length. This includes the two brass screw eyes that protrude from the finials that attach the braided yellow hanging cord.Collection
