Small book titled "Burlington Lines Rules of the Operating Deportment," for the Burlington Route. The inside title page gives a more specific title of "The Standard Code of Train Rules, Block Signal and Interlocking Rules." The rules applied to the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Company; The Colorado & Southern Railway Company; Fort Worth & Denver City Railway Company; and The Wichita Valley Railway Company. The rules took effect on December 1, 1929 after being adopted by the American Railway Association on January 17, 1928. The book belonged to James D. Hutchison, who was an employee for the Colorado and Southern Railway Company as a telegrapher and relief agent. He trained under Clarence Vaughn, an agent at the Broomfield train depot. Hutchison used the book during his work from 1945 to 1946. The inside cover has his name written in pencil, along with the date, January 21, 1946, in the upper right corner. A folded piece of paper in the inside back cover has letters and numbers translated into morse code written in ink.
