Description
[a]: One small military pocket bible with khaki coloured canvas covering and red text block. Bible has a bullet hole which passes through the proper upper right quadrant of the book but not through the front cover. The bible is made up of 983 printed pages. Inside front cover reads "John C. Denmark, 408 Maria St. Ottawa, Jan. 2nd 1900."
[b]: One rectangular red satin bookmark complete with embossed gold lettering "May The Lord Watch Over You // While We Are Absent From // Each Other"

John Charles Denmark was born in Ottawa, Ontario on 27 December 1877, the son of Aaron and Mary Ann Denmark.
Denmark enlisted with the Royal Canadian Field Artillery on December 20, 1899 and served in South Africa until being struck off strength on January 10, 1901. He re-enlisted with the 2nd Canadian Mounted Rifles on December 11, 1901, completing a second tour in South Africa in November 1902. For his service, Denmark was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps for Belfast, Cape Colony, Orange Free State and South Africa 1902. Denmark married Sarah Helen Kerr in Ottawa on 07 December 1910 and later served with the Reserve Brigade of the Canadian Field Artillery during the First World War. John Charles Denmark died on 19 March 1956 and is buried at Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa.
