This chair was designed in conjunction with the overall architectural design, by John Bland, of the new Ottawa City Hall, Green Island, which opened on August 12, 1958. The chair would have been used by Mayor George Nelms, Mayor Don Reid and later by Mayor Charlotte Whitton during her second term in office, among others. The chair was in continual use at City Hall, 111 Sussex, until 1992. The chair was in use during the construction of the Ottawa Train Station, the Canadian Centennial, the evolution of the Transitway system, and the opening of the Ottawa Courthouse, among other milestones.
