Result: Identified A.J. Freiman's Ltd. Was founded in 1918 at 73 Rideau Street at the former Mosgrove Street. The store operated as Freiman's until it was acquired by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1972 and rebranded as “The Bay” in 1973. Archibald Jacob Freiman (Aharon Yaakov Freiman) was born in Lithuania in 1880, immigrating to Canada in 1893, first settling in Hamilton before becoming active in Ottawa department stores beginning in 1899. Freiman and his family were extremely active and influential in Ottawa and were one of the City's most prominent Jewish families. A.J. Freiman passed away in 1944.
