This desk was used at the law offices of John Bower Lewis (1817-1874) and Charles Hamnett Pinhey (1828-1893), who were Ottawa-based barristers. They worked together between about 1857 and 1874. Later in its life, this desk was also used as a memorial of sorts. Carved inside the desk are the names of several Ottawans. One of them, Frank Nash, died in the First World War at the age of 19. Another, Little Lapointe, died of Spanish Influenza in 1918.
