Description
Two roughly legal-sized, hand-written correspondence documents pertaining to the construction of the Rideau Canal, and dated March 14, 1826, and March 22, 1826 respectively. The first document [.01] is 11 double-sided pages in length and is entitled "Memoranda as to the formation of the Rideau Canal between the Ottawa River and Kingston upon Lake Ontario" addressed to General Gothar Mann, Inspector General of Fortifications from Major General Sir James Carmichael Smyth. The second document [.02] in three double-sided pages in length and is signed by General Gothar Mann. Both documents are period copies of the original documents i.e. hand-written copies of the originals made contemporaneously for secondary use.
