Description
One black and white photograph depicting a framed silhouette of Col. John By as a young man. The framed silhouette is centrally placed in the photograph with a sprig of oak leaves hanging above it, and a rectangular plaque below it. The silhouette is a left-facing profile of the head and bust. He is wearing a tunic with a stand-up collar. The photograph is displayed between a pane of glass and a piece of cardboard, and is sealed with black tape on all four sides. Caption under illustration reads: "From an original in the possession of // Mr. F. Williams Taylor.". The plaque below the photograph reads: "Lt. Col. John By, R. E. // Founder of Ottawa, Formerly Bytown ---". Written on back in black ink: "No 1654"; on red and white sticker: "Colonel John By // No 1654".
