Description
One black and white rectangular silver gelatin reproduction print depicting the interior of Murphy Gamble Company Store on Sparks Street, the photograph looks down a store aisle with displays on either side. On the left side of the store are display cases with bolts of fabric and trim. On the right side of the store is a long counter with a line of stools for the patrons to sit on, there is a woman in a black dress and hat sitting on the first stool. On top of the long counter is a display of gloves, behind the counter is a wall of shelves filled with boxes of different sizes and small drawers. Between the long counter and the shelves the sales girls are lined up, they are wearing dark skirts and white high collared, long sleeved blouses; they all have a similar Gibson Girl hairstyle. In the bottom right corner of the photograph a man in a dark suit, vest and white collared shirt is standing, looking at the photographer. Written on the back of the photograph in pencil: "Interior, Murphy Gamble Co., Store [Ottawa] // From a Topley photograph in the Public Archives".
