Result: Identified Catherine Wallace Bell McRae, the daughter of Robert Bell and Margaret Waugh Buckham, was born in Bytown in 1852. She married John William McRae on December 1872 in Hull, Quebec. The couple had three sons and two daughters. Her father Robert Bell (1821-1873), was the founder of the Bytown Packet (Ottawa Citizen) and the Ottawa and Prescott Railway, as well as town councilor and parliamentarian. Catherine and John had five children: John Bell McRae, Joseph Percy McRae, James Hector McRae, Margaret Katherine McRae, and Mary Elizabeth McRae. Catherine died at her home at 172 Elgin Street on September 30, 1920 in her 70th year. Upon her death, her estate was reported to be worth $101,835. The bulk of the estate was comprised of personal property, clothing, household good, jewelry, securities, and cash.
