The Palm Garden restaurant opened in 1903 and was located at 393 Somerset West between Bank and Kent streets. It was popular for serving ice cream from the Ottawa Dairy Company (subsequently part of Borden's Dairy), advertising “dainty, cooling dishes” with names like: Fairy Fluff Sundae, Sweetheart Sundae, College Girl, Strawberry Nights, and Coffee Days. They frequently advertised specials and local partnerships, and often featured in-house entertainment like orchestral performances.
A new location was opened at 66 Sparks Street on October 31, 1925, under the management of Mr. Stamos, and quickly became well-known for hot lunches, dinners, and dancing.
