[a]: One black silk mourning / funeral badge / ribbon for Thomas D'Arcy McGee, complete with tin- or brass-framed photograph. Ribbon consists of a black, frilled rosette with brown thread borders and two rectangular ribbons attached along the bottom edge, both in the same black silk with brown thread borders. In the centre of the rosette is a shoulder-length black and white portrait of Thomas D'Arcy McGee in a suit and bow tie, and framed in an oval window inside a rectangular tin or brass frame
with carved floral designs on all corners.

In the centre of the rosette is a shoulder-length black and white portrait of Thomas D'Arcy McGee in a suit and bow tie, and framed in an oval window inside a rectangular tin or brass frame with carved floral designs on all corners. Attached to the back of the rosette
is a white commemorative ribbon which acts as a backdrop for the hanging ribbons (see markings). In the centre of the white ribbon is a crest bordered by black stripes; the crest is of an engraving by John Henry Walker.
