[.01]: One roughly square, plainly decorated, red brown wood (possibly mahogany) washbasin with one removable drawer, one willow ware bowl/basin, and squared legs that taper at the bottom beneath the drawer mounting. Square top has large circular hole to accommodate bowl. Drawer has simple pull and a roughly whitewashed interior. A rectangular brass plaque (added by donor at time of purchase) located on the lower left corner of the top surface reads: "WASH STAND BELONGED TO // COLONEL JOHN BY R.E. // DURING PERIOD HE WAS // BUILDING RIDEAU CANAL 1825."; An additional, smaller brass plaque which is no longer attached to the piece reads: "COLONEL JOHN BY'S // WASHSTAND."
[.02] One circular, deep, willow ware porcelain bowl/basin complete with pagoda, boat and a floral scene in blue transfer decoration. Bowl is not original to the washstand.Made/Created
