1942 joind the RAF, 18 Sept 1944 started to fly with Bob Upcott
Stan Jones was the wireless Operator and Bob Upcott was the Pilot
1947 he demobilized and continued his work as a butcher which he started at age 14
July 1982 he came to Canada to Mary his wife Helen who was a friend of Bob Upcott. They had met during visits between friends in Canada and England.
Stan Jones saw missions over Mannheim, Cologne, Essen, Dortmund, Gelsenkirchen, Misburg, Hanau, Bremen, Hanover, Hamburg, Potsdam, Heligoland, Berchtegaden(25 Apr 45).
Operation Manna Missions: The Hague(29 Apr 45); The Hague(01 May 45); Rotterdam(02 May 45); Valkenburg(03 May 45); Rotterdam(04 May 45); Rotterdam(07 May 45).
Following 08 May 45 they made several runs returning ex Allied P.O.W(Prisoners of War) to England.
Lancaster Crew, SRN2, RAF 101 Sqn(Special Duty)(The Bad Penny)
Named the Bad Penny after the large English penny and the expression, “A Bad Penny Always Comes Back”. Each crew member carried with them on each mission a “Bad Penny” as a good luck symbol for a safe return from their missions.Photograph Details
