Description

Antique- silver, scroll-design oval belt buckle, branded to Canitex Drilling Rig 10, Blowout '81. Features: A bulged-oval/ rectangular cast metal (likely steal) belt buckle, with a scroll-design border, and in-set in the centre is a clear, a recessed textured background, with large text in the middle "CANITEX". The 'I' is created out of an image of a derrick. Below the word Canitex, is smaller text reading "DRILLING RIG TO BLOWOUT '81". The metal is finished in antique-silver colouring. The buckle is lightly curved. Boarder: the border is 4mm, designed with two rolls on each side of the buckle. Between the rolls is a double edge lined border with with a line texture between the two edges. Back Elements: The back is silver with a slightly roughed texture. Included are a curved, tapered hook (right) and an irregular hexagonal-shaped hinge attached at one point. Between these elements is the raised makers mark, an image if an American bald eagle with the words " THE GREAT AMERICAN CHICAGO BUCKLE CO" wrapped around the eagle. above the makers mark is a raised rectangle with engraved text reading" J.M. MORRIE ADV. LTD. EDMONTON ALBERTA" At the bottom of the buckle is another raised rectangle box with nothing on it. Old Description (Kelsey Dalrymple, 3 June 2020):Cantex Drilling Rig 10, Blowout '81. Surface

Border: Border has slight dents and scratches. The scrolls are faded and worn. along the top of the border above the left scroll is two large scratches. Front: Front of buckle is faded and worn. the scrolls edges are fading and chipped away. The raised texts has overall scratches throughout the letters. Back: Has no noticeable scratches or dents along back of buckle. The back is very discoloured and faded. The attachment holding the hinge on is is slightly chipped on the edges.

Mechanism

Hinge is stiff but has full range of motion.
