Description

A set of salt and pepper shakers, shaped like gas pumps and branded to Texaco's Fire Chief and Sky Chief. Description A set of novelty salt and pepper shakers moulded into the shape of gas pumps, likely modelled off a mid-century Tokheim design. The shape is a uniform vertical width, with art deco style shaping to either side, and a lightly widened base (which can be pulled loose to refill the shakers). The top of the shakers each has the relative letter "S" or "P" composed of holes (through which the salt/pepper is dispensed). The underside has the moulded text "MADE IN U.S.A" on each shaker. Pepper Shaker The pepper shaker is made from red plastic, with the following imagery printed on its Side A and Side C: At the top is a replica of a gas pump's display made of a white rounded rectangle with a black outline, inside of which are a round image with faux text (top), Tokheim text logo (upper-centre), an "AMOUNT OF SALE" counter (centre), a "GALLONS DELIVERED" counter (lower-centre), and a third unidentified counter with faux text underneath (bottom); in the centre is another, larger white rounded rectangle with is thin black border slighting inside the white area, inside of which is the red stylised text "FIRE CHIEF" (top), black text "GASOLINE" beneath, and a red, black, and yellow firefighter helmet to the upper-left of which is the round star Texaco logo. This imagery is identical on both Side A and Side C. Salt Shaker The salt shaker is made from silver plastic, with the following imagery printed on its Side A and Side C: At the top is a replica of a gas pump's display made of a white rounded rectangle with. black outline, inside of which are a round image with faux text (top), Tokheim text logo (upper-centre), an "AMOUNT OF SALE" counter (centre), a "GALLONS DELIVERED" counter (lower-centre), and a third unidentified counter with faux text underneath (bottom); in the centre is another, larger rounded rectangle with a green background and thin black border, inside of which is a black lined, white band containing the red stylised text "SKY CHIEF" (upper-centre), behind which is a black lined, red art deco style wing in an "L" shape, in the lower-centre (to the left) is Texaco's round star logo (in white, red, and green), with the black text "GASOLINE" along the bottom. Along the top are four horizontal lines in white, and the background of the lower 1/3 of the rectangle is filled in black. This imagery is identical on both Side A and Side C. Old Description (Kelsey Dalrymple, 2/10/2020): a) Novelty pepper shaker in the shape of a gas pump. Shaker is red with stickers advertising Texaco Fire Chief gasoline.
