Description

Rectangular belt buckle, branded to Canterra Features: A rectangular, cast metal (solid brass) belt buckle with rounded corners, finished in antique-bronze. The buckle is lightly curved. Front Design: A 3 mm border around the edge, with the recessed interior surface having a pebbled texture. In the top right is smooth raised block text that reads "Canterra" and at the bottom is smooth raised block text that reads "FRONTIER DRILLING OPERATIONS". In the top left is the Canterra logo, made up of a trapezoid and a parallelogram. To the right there is a raised image of an offshore oil rig, with a helicopter landing on it, and in the center of the buckle is the shape of the province of Newfoundland. Back Elements: The back is a slight wrinkled texture. The hook has been intentionally filed off, and the hinge is an elongated hexagon with two curved edges that is attached at one point. Between the hinge and hook there is an imprinted makers mark in the shape of three circles, one inside the other. Curved along the bottom of the outside circle is the words "©1981 BTS". Curved along the top of the middle circle is the words "Solid Brass", and curved along the bottom are the words "MADE IN U.S.A.". The centermost circle says "BTS" in a stylized block font. Old Description (Kelsey Dalrymple, 3 June 2020): Canterra Frontier Drilling Operations. Rectangular brass belt buckle with offshore rig and helicopter on right.

Cleanliness

There is two patches on white accretion on the front surface. One is in the gap near the top of the image of Newfoundland, and the other is on the image of the offshore oil rig, on the right side of the portion where the rig connects to the platform.

Surface

Back: there are some sections of wear on the back of the buckle, most notably, there is a section of wear in the shape of the hinge on the far left side, there is a horizontal line of wear to the right of the hook, and there are two horizontal lines of wear above and below the hook. There is also some heavier wear in the four corners where the underneath metal is visible. There is some intentional abrasion on the back surface, most notably, there is a patch of abrasion in between the hinge and the left edge of the buckle, a patch on the connection part of the hinge, as well as some surface abrasion next to where the hook was ground off.

Materials

Back: The hook has been intentionally ground off.

Mechanism

The hinge moves freely.
