Belt Buckle, Accessory, Metal, Silver, AutocarDescription
Uniquely-shaped belt buckle, branded to Autocar.
Features: A uniquely-shaped (oval middle, with rectangular sides), cast metal (likely brass) belt buckle, finished in antique-silver. The buckle is lightly curved.
Front Design: Around the edges of the buckle is a border comprised of a broader outer border (3mm), a gap of 1mm, and a finer inner border (0.5mm). The recessed interior space has a pinpoint texture. Through the centre of the buckle in large, raised text is "Autocar".
Back Elements: The back has a woven, fabric-like texture. The hook and hinge are connected and made of two parts: a bar with a fine, curved hook on one end and hinge base on the other, then a separate hexagonal (with curved inward sides connecting to the base) hinge looped through the base. On the middle of the bar, between the hook and hinge, is stamped "L 17".
Old Description (Kelsey Dalrymple, 3 June 2020): Autocar. Rectangular pewter belt buckle. # L17. (Donated by Gordon McQuaig).Collection

Adhesive residue on the back, in three spots. Along the left side is a vertical strip of adhesive; a patch on the middle of the bar joining the hook and hinge; and a patch at the bottom to the lower-left of the hook. Additional adhesive residue on the hinge and hinge base, and on the top of the left side edge.Materials
Moderate to deep denting across the front and back surfaces. Notable examples on the front include a cluster of dents on the inner border at the top; a cluster of broad dents on the right of the top edge; a cluster of dents through the centre-to-bottom of the right edge; a line dent across the inner and outer border to the right of the bottom edge; and a cluster of line dents in the inner left corner of the bottom-left. On the back, some key dents are one in the inner-corner of the top-left edge; a round dent to the right-of-centre top; a cluster of dents along the right edge; and a squiggly line of dents to the bottom-right of the hinge.
There is a raised production imperfection in the bottom-left of the border.Mechanism
The hinge is stiff, but does have a full range of movement with moderate effort.Created By
