A plastic gas pump shaped AM/FM radio, branded to Texaco Fire Chief.
Description
This themed personal radio is in the shape of a 1930s Tokheim Model 850 gas pump. The body is made from moulded red plastic, with a join along the left and right sides. At the top of the radio is the illuminated globe, on the front of which is a round sticker, with a white bae, red border, and the Texaco Fire Chief emblem (round star Texaco logo above a red firefighters helmet, and the black text "FIRE-CHIEF). The back is domed. To the left is the pump nozzle, with the hose looping down, across the front of the base, and up the right side, ending just below the globe. At the base is a short podium with circular perforations on the top and grate perforations on the base, which houses the radio's speakers.
Front
The tuning dial is located on the upper section of the front-side, in the position of this gas pump model's volumeter dial. This dial is composed of an outer ring on which is a white sticker with two sets of black numbering (AM on one half, and FM on the other) around the perimeter for stations. Inside this is mounted a second ring of plastic which turns to select the station. On the inner ring is a second white sticker with the black text "OM[?]EIM; VOLUMETER; CU[?]SO; SET POINTERS AT ZERO BEFORE DELIVERY; BLACKGROUND SHOWS TOTAL GALLONS; MINIMUM ACCURACY AT ANY RATE OF DELIVERY". Over part of the text is a black pointer which is used to indicate the desired station selection.
The front of the lower section are two stickers. The upper sticker is an oval, with the top 1/3 being white, and the bottom 2/3 being red. In the top 1/3 section is the black text "DRAIN AND REFILL WITH". In the lower 2/3 section is the white text "CLEAN CLEAR GOLDEN TEXACO MOTOR OIL". The lower sticker is a square, with a white base and red border or a thick and a thin line. Inside is a configuration of the Texaco Fire Chief emblem, similar to the one on the globe (round star Texaco logo above a red firefighter's helmet, and the black text "TEXACO FIRE-CHIEF GASOLINE).
Back
Towards the top of the back-side are two, small rectangular white stickers with black text. The top-most reads "GAS PUMP RADIO; MODEL: GPR1; POWER: DC 3V; MADE IN HONG KONG." The bottom sticker reads "NC0307667"
In the centre of the back-side is a round plastic dial which controls volume. On the dial is a silver sticker with the black word "OFF" followed by numbers 1-10 around the perimeter. Below this is a black slide switch for "AM" and "FM". At the base of the back-side is the battery compartment, which runs length-wise up the body of the radio, and which is enclosed by a curved cover.

The stickers on the front of the radio are significantly faded (likely by sun exposure), though still readable.
Light scuffs throughout the plastic surface from handling and contact with other objects.Materials
The flat tabs of the battery compartment have thick green corrosion/oxidation, along with some surrounding metal components. There is also a greasy residue at the lower back of the compartment which is likely related.
The back stickers are lightly peeling away from the plastic at the corners, but are not in danger of coming free at this time.Mechanism
It us unclear if the radio still functions with the corrosion present in the battery compartment. Has not been tested.Created By
