Description

An invitation accompanied by an addressed envelope and two photographs. The invitation is addressed to Mr. & Mrs. G.H. Stafford, for the unavailing of a monument commemorating The First Oil Well in Western Canada, on Thursday 10 October 1968, Oil City Site, Akamina Highway, Waterton Lakes National Park. The invitation has a printed script in black ink and a gold emblem, with English on one side and French on the other. The envelope has a typewritten address and "Canada Postage Paid" stamp on the front, and on the reverse "CANADA; DEPARTMENT OF INDIAN AFFAIRS AND NORTHERN DEVELOPMENT; MINISTÈRE DES AFFAIRES INDIENNES ET DU NORD CANADIEN" printed in black on the envelope flap. Also on the reverse is written "340" in pencil. Accompanying the invitation is also a pair of photographs, assumedly from the event. The first is a small portrait-orientated, woven-texture matte, image of the monument (a stylised oil derrick) with a man posted beside it (brown jacket and checkered pants). The second is a small landscape-orientated, glossy, white-bordered, image of TWO men posed beside a commemorative plaque for the First Oil Well in Western Canada.
