Description

A die-cast money bank, in the shape of a scale replica of a 1925 Mack Bulldog lubricant/freight truck, branded to Texaco. This replica money bank was produced by toy-makers ERTL in 1989, and is part of the Texaco Truck Series which began production in 1984. It is #6 in the series. These replicas were produced as promotional items for adults and children, and appear to have been sold in Texaco gas stations for $14.99. This particular model is a replica of a 1925 Mack Bull Dog lubricant/freight truck, which is a vehicle used by Texaco Jobbers (the middleman between the company that refines the petroleum products and buyers and retailers) and other distributors when delivering products in the 1920s and 1930s. Description This piece is comprised of metal, plastic, and rubber. The cab is black cast-metal and the truck body is red with a black roof and base. Gold paint is used to detail the Mack logo on the front the the vehicle and the front headlights. The truck body also has cast details including a bolted border, panelling on the sides, rear door, and wood texture on the underside. The truck also has branding for Texaco, in the form of a round star logo on the driver’s and passenger’s doors, and the text “THE TEXAS COMPANY; "PETROLEUM & IT'S PRODUCTS” on the left and right sides of the truck body. Plastic elements include the interior console (black), steering wheel (silver), and bench seat(black), the wheel spokes (red), and the undercarriage (black). The tires are white rubber, and have a full range of motion. The vehicle’s rear section acts as a money bank, with a slit at the top, and a locking closure on the underside. On the plastic underside of the vehicle is moulded wheel chain detailing, the wheel axles, the model's manufacturer's marks, and the serial number (debossed stamp). Money Bank Elements In the middle of the vehicle's back area is a 4mm by 33mm slit where coins can be deposited. On the underside, directly below the slit, is a 17mm by 33mm locking opening, through which the money can be retrieved. Attached is a small 14mm by 20mm key. Manufacturer's Marks On the underside of the vehicle are moulded the following details: - "The ERTL Co.; DYERSVILLE IOWA USA; MADE IN CHINA; replica mack; 1925 bull dog" (left) - "2509" (Pressed into the plastic of the underside, to the right of the manufacturer's mark). Old Description (Kelsey Dalrymple, 2/18/2020): Still bank in the shape of a replica 1925 Mack Bull Dog truck. Black truck with red traiiler. Labeled The Texas Company, "Petroleum and Its Products."
