Description

Scroll-design oval belt buckle, with clear cabochon over print in the centre. Branded to Champion Drilling Rig No. 1. Features: A bulged-rectangular cast metal (likely brass) belt buckle, with a scroll-design border, and in-set in the centre is a clear, oval cabochon over an image of Rig No. 1. The metal is finished in antique-bronze colouring. The buckle is lightly curved. Front Design: The bulged-rectangular shape of the metal is bordered by double raised bands (2mm each, with 1mm gap), with double-scroll elements overlapping at the cardinal points. Within this is an oval raised ring (1mm) which contains the oval cabochon. Between the scroll-work and the interior oval border on the left and right are small decorative elements of a diamond flanked by small swirls and topped with a circle. The other open spaces between the outer and inner borders is blank and untextured. Within the cabochon element is an image of Rig No. 1; The image is a cloudy sky with two red shacks at the bottom. There is tree tops in the background and No. 1 just right of centre. To the left of the rig is gold-foil print, reading " Champion Drilling Rig No. 1". Cabochon material in unknown, but likely a poured resin or similar. Back Elements: The back is dark-brown with a smooth texture. Included are a curved, tapered hook (right) and an irregular hexagonal-shaped hinge attached at two points. Between these elements are two vertical rounded strips (one long, one short) with the raised text "MAENDEL CANADA" (long on right) and "963" (short on left). Old Description (Kelsey Dalrymple, 3 June 2020): Champion Drilling Rig No. 1. Brass belt buckle with enamel face. Photograph of rig in centre.
