A large black and white (gloss) photograph of an active oil flare at Leduc #1, 13 February 1947. In the right section of the midground is the flames and smoke for the oil flare, filling the 3/4 of the right side of the image. In the centre background is the Leduc #1 oil derrick. To the centre-left of the midground through to the background are a crowd of figures facing the flare.
On the reverse is a black-ink stamp reading "PROVINCIAL ARCHIVES OF ALBERTA; H.POLLARD; No....; Title....; Publication:; Not Permitted; Permitted; PLEASE CREDIT AS ABOVE", all in a rectangular border. In blue ballpoint is the following text in the stamp's fields: "[No.] P272z; [Title] Imperial Oil Leduc No 1 well Leduc Oil fields The day the well blew in; Feb 13/47; x [Not Permitted]". Along the bottom-right edge is written in pencil "2.; Leduc/Devon Oil. Hist. Society".Collection
