Description

An oval, metal belt buckle, branded to TOTCO with imagery of on- and off-shore oil drilling. Features: An oval, cast metal belt buckle, finished in silver with gold detailing. Part of a limited run from 1981 (no. 663). Front Design: A 1.5-2mm border around the edge (gold), with crenellation-style detailing (cut-outs at regular intervals). The interior space is in a silver-colour with the top half in a pinpoint texture, and the bottom half textured to look like water and small mountain ranges. At the top (overlapping the border) is a raised oval (gold) with a double-ring border and "TOTCO" in raised text shaped to fill the oval. Filling the interior space below are raised images (gold) of and off-shore oil rig (left), drill pipes (middle), and an on-shore oil rig (right). Back Elements: The back has a speckles texture, with an open-rectangular hinge, and an angled hook. The hinge is shaped into a narrow rectangle that meets the buckle at two points with open space between these points. In this open space is the maker's mark: A raised lion-head image and the stylized initials "ADM" underneath. Below this is the raised text "AWARD DESIGN MEDALS, INC.;P.O.BOX 1088; NORMAN, OKLA. 73070. Below this text is a raised bar of smooth metal with the engraved code "24KGP". Below the hook, at the other end of the back, is the raised decorative cursive text "Limited Edition", with "NO." and a raised rectangle with the engraved limited edition number "663". Below this is the raised date "1981". Old Description (Kelsey Dalrymple, 23 July 2020): Totco. Silver and gold oval brass belt buckle with rig and offshore rig on face. Limited edition number 663. 24 karat gold plated. (Donated by Diane Naismith)
