Description

A die-cast money bank, in the shape of a scale replica of a 1925 Kenworth Stake Truck with Barrels, branded to Texaco. This replica money bank was produced by toy-makers ERTL in 1992, and is part of the Texaco Truck Series which began production in 1984. It is #9 in the series. These replicas were produced as promotional items for adults and children, and appear to have been sold in Texaco gas stations for $18.99. This particular model is a replica of a 1925 Kenworth Stake Truck (with Texaco branded barrels), was one of the vehicles used by Texaco Jobbers (the middleman between the company that refines the petroleum products and buyers and retailers) and other distributors when delivering products in the 1920s and 1930s. Description The piece is comprised of metal, plastic, and rubber. The cab, truck bed, and barrels of the vehicle are die-cast metal in red, black, white, grey, and green. The hood of the cab and front mudguards are black; the cab, truck bed and sides are red; and the barrels are grey with green detailing. The cab is open, with no doors or widescreen; a flat roof with a rivel-design border and canvas textured top; and small steps on either side of the cab. The truck bed is long, with a wood panelling texture on the top and bottom of the bed, and front section of the siding, while the back section of the siding is an open lattice. In the truck bed are 30 oil barrels (18 standing at the base, and 12 laying on top). The vehicle has branding for Texaco, in the form of a round star logo by the driver's and passenger’s doors; the raised text “TEXACO” and round star logo (red square sticker) on the left and right sides of the truck bed sides; and the round star logo branding (round grey sticker) on the ends of the barrels, which read "THE TEXAS COMPANY; PORT ARTHUR, TEXAS". Plastic elements include those on the interior (black console, steering wheel, and bench seat), the widescreen frame (no 'glass'), the grill and headlights (silver and black), the front bumper (black), the wheel spokes (red), and the undercarriage (black). There are 10 wheels total, with 2 wheels at the front of the vehicle, and eight wheels at the back of the vehicle in a configuration of four sets of two. The tires are black rubber with the ERTL text logo in the moulding and are functional with a full range of motion. The oil barrel portion of the vehicle acts as a money bank, with a slit at the top, and a locking closure on the underside (key attached). On the plastic underside of the vehicle are moulded wheel axles and the model's manufacturer's marks. Money Bank Elements In the middle of the vehicle's back area is a 4mm by 30mm slit where coins can be deposited. On the underside, directly below the slit, is a 16mm by 31mm locking opening, through which the money can be retrieved. Attached is a small 14mm by 20mm key. Manufacturer's Marks On the underside of the vehicle are moulded the following details: - "OFFICIAL KENWORTH LICENSED PRODUCT; MOTOR KENWORTH TRUCKS" (far-left) - "ERTL; DYERSVILLE, IOWA 52040; MADE IN MEXICO" (inner-left) - "1992 EDITION #9" (right) Old Description (Kelsey Dalrymple, 2/18/2020): Still bank in the shape of a replica 1925 Kenworth stake truck and trailer.
